Big Dreams & Fear: Why Being Scared Means You're Growing
Mar 25, 2025
Lately, I’ve been sitting with a big dream...
The kind that makes your heart race before you even say it out loud.
The kind that feels almost too bold to claim.
It’s not the first time I’ve felt this way. I’ve been here before—on the edge of a dream so big, it’s both exhilarating and terrifying. And even though I’ve spent years building work that I deeply believe in, I still get scared.
Because dreaming big brings up big feelings. Doubt. Vulnerability. The urge to play it safe.
And yet, I’ve learned something powerful: those feelings aren’t a red light—they’re a green one. A sign I’m growing. Stretching. Stepping deeper into alignment with the work I’m here to do.
When Big Dreams Feel Too Big
On a call earlier today, I caught myself hesitating. I almost didn’t share the vision I’ve been quietly holding—the one about creating real, global impact on gender equity.
I was afraid she’d think it was too much. Too ambitious. Unrealistic.
I’ve heard those reactions before. Seen the shift when I move from grounded strategy into bold, world-changing possibility. That moment when “big thinking” becomes “too big” for someone else’s comfort zone.
And I feel it—that familiar wobble.
But then I pause and ask: How do I feel about it?
Scared? Yes.
Stretched? Definitely.
Standing right at the edge of my comfort zone? Exactly where I’m meant to be.
Fear is Not a Sign to Stop—It’s a Signal to Begin
Someone once told me: You have to be naive to think you can change the world.
And maybe that’s true. Because if we absorbed every doubt, every fear, every “that’s impossible” someone projected onto us… we’d never start.
Especially in the work of women’s leadership and gender equity, I’ve heard it all:
-
“No one actually cares”
-
“We're going backwards Jenny.”
-
“Don’t get your hopes up.”
But I return to what I know: mindset matters.
It’s the foundation of everything I teach in the Advancement Blueprint. And when the noise gets loud, I come back to the quiet question:
What do you want?
That’s where my clarity lives. That’s where the vision gets rooted again.
Real Impact Begins with One Brave Step
The truth is, I’ve already seen the ripple effect. Over 600 women have gone through the Propeller Experience. That’s 600 women who’ve reclaimed their voice, their power, and their possibility.
And I’m just getting started.
Today reminded me: I’m not alone in this vision. There are other women—maybe even you—who carry dreams that feel too big and still move forward anyway.
If that’s you, reading this and quietly nodding…
I see you.
Your big dreams matter.
Especially the ones that scare you.
Especially those.
This Women’s Month, Let’s Dream Even Bigger
As we close out International Women’s Month, I’m holding space for every woman with a bold, world-shifting vision.
Let’s not just reflect on how far we’ve come—
Let’s give ourselves permission to go further.
To dream bigger. Even when it feels impossible.
Especially then.
Because that’s where real change begins.
And I’m here for it! Are you?
